Rebecca Tarn

Rebecca is an Assistant Solicitor. She completed her law degree at Newcastle University in 2006 and then in June 2007 attained a distinction in her Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in York. She joined Major Family Law in March 2010 following two and a half years with Newcastle based firm Beecham Peacock.

Rebecca undertakes all aspects of Family Law work including divorce and separation and private law children’s proceedings. She has a particular interest in cases involving contact and residence issues and understands the emotional strain such disputes can have on families. In the current 2011/2012 edition of the Legal 500 Rebecca has been described by clients as ‘understanding yet professional’ and her aim is to provide not only legal advice but support to clients facing the most difficult times in their lives. Rebecca often represents vulnerable clients who have suffered domestic violence and is experienced in obtaining injunctions to protect victims of abuse.

Financial remedy is often a major consideration for clients considering divorce and Rebecca is experienced in ancillary relief. Many of her cases have involved unusual or complicating features, such as cross-border or overseas assets and even tracing spouses where parties have been separated for years. Rebecca is a regular contributor to the local press and has written articles on a number of these topics and other developments in Family Law.

Rebecca has strong links to the North East legal community. Her partner is a criminal lawyer at Cartwright King solicitors in the North East circuit. In her spare time she enjoys surfing, body boarding and climbing.
