Role at Major Family Law
Previously one of the longest serving partners at leading commercial city centre firm, Muckle LLP, Jonathan has over 40 years’ experience as a solicitor. He now operates as a consultant offering the benefit of that experience to leading law firms in the North East.
He has been advising on all aspects of family law at MFL since June 2014. He is particularly renowned for his skill in handling matters relating to clients of a high net worth, including media personalities, professional sportsmen and women and prominent members of the business community. He specialises in matters involving complex financial and business issues.
Jonathan is recognised as a ‘tough negotiator’ by both the Legal 500 and in the Chambers Directory. Jonathan’s diverse expertise covers both financial remedy and child cases.
Clients praise his courtroom nous and rational approach to cases. Much of his work concerns high net worth individuals and separations involving very significant assets.
Jonathan prides himself on his ability to provide practical and cost-effective advice and is a long-time proponent of pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements.
Where more modest assets are involved, Jonathan is prepared to consider offering his assistance on an “unbundled” basis, on a limited retainer which enables him to advise and assist in securing the best possible outcome at a more affordable cost.
Jonathan is also one of the leading specialists in white collar crime, offering discreet yet robust and effective advice and representation on all nature of criminal charges and formal investigations. Jonathan has over 40 years’ experience in representing defendants in all manner of Road Traffic offences, including those for whom disqualification from driving is being considered.
Outside of work
Jonathan has always been a keen sportsman, having played hockey and cricket all of his life and to a (relatively) high standard. He both skis and golfs with enthusiasm. He takes a keen interest in theatre and film, having been involved with the team that won an Oscar for The Silent Child in 2018.
