Leading divorce specialist lawyer, Rebecca Tarn, solicitor at Major Family Law, Newcastle’s best divorce and family law solicitors, states the Office for National Statistics has published data relating to the marital status and living arrangements of people in England and Wales from 2002 to 2014.

The figures show that just over half (51.5%) of all people aged 16 and over in England and Wales were married or in a civil partnership in 2014.

However, between 2002 and 2014 the figures showed a general increase in the amount of people who were single or divorced.

The increase in divorces was most prominent in those aged 45 and over, with the largest percentages divorced between the ages of 50 to 64 in 2014. This trend has not gone unnoticed by the media with increasing reports of ‘silver divorces’.
