Article from The North East Times

It has been another remarkable year for Major Family Law. The progressive Family Law firm based in Ponteland is now the fastest growing niche practice in the region and continues to take new instructions from both the UK and abroad.

Joanne Major has recently appointed Jo Hall, formerly of McDaniel and Co. as Assistant Solicitor. She is fifth dynamic, specialist lawyer in the Firm and has received many commendations from the Legal Profession. Jo is Secretary of Young Resolution North East and regularly contributes to the press on legal matters. Jo is delighted to join such a dynamic and innovative firm as Major Family Law and says, “The breadth and quality of family work they attract is immediately apparent and sets them apart as real specialists.  In my first three weeks I’ve already been to the Principal Registry in London twice dealing with a case involving offshore trusts and child abduction which has been genuinely very exciting.  Joanne is a real leader in the field and steers a tight ship.  It’s an excellent opportunity for my career progression to join her and the talented team”

Major Family Law has developed a reputation not only for Legal Excellence but also for its pioneering and innovative approach.  All specialist lawyers are members of the National organisation, Resolution, which promotes good practice in the field of family law and the growth of the Firm has attracted widespread attention from Leading National Law firms who are keen to forge connections.  Joanne believes a key the company’s success is that unlike many Law Firms, Major Family Law wants to push the boundaries and is happy to explore new ways of doing things. This is a Law Firm for the 21st century.

Major Family Law was one of the first Law firms to regularly embrace Social Media.  After attending a course on Social networking led by Gateshead based marketing consultancy, Tent (wwww.tent.co.uk) Joanne realised the marketing opportunities afforded by Twitter and now has over 400 interested followers. www.twitter.com/majorfamilylaw.  Through Twitter, the Firm has attracted the attention of local businesses, new clients and recently the Firm received some international instructions from well regarded London Counsel.  Joanne’s “tweets” have also aided her recruitment policy. Mentioning the Firm’s expansion and need for a new family lawyer, helped with the recruitment of Jo Hall. Her Recruitment Agency saw the “tweet” and made a call..!  Joanne says, “I am always on the look out for new opportunities and innovative ways of driving The Practice forward. I am aware many in the Profession dismiss “twitter” as being a waste of time or simply a platform of self indulgent nonsense.” Certainly in the North east we are one of the few Firms embracing it. Indeed all my fee earners now “tweet” regularly and I see it as an opportunity to raise our profile in the local community and help forge relationships which hitherto did not exist but it is also a useful way of keeping abreast of legal updates/sharing information with others in the profession.”

There is major talent in the young, highly effective team. All are dedicated Family Lawyers, experts in their field and committed to ensuring that all their clients are treated with respect, compassion and the utmost professionalism.  If they don’t have all the answers at the first meeting then they find them out!

“I remember walking down those steps solo in June 2009 for a photo shoot just ahead of the Major Family Law Launch party. I was Major Family Law.  Two years on, I am delighted that there are now five of us, and we have plenty of plans for the future!”
