Newcastle’s Top Divorce and Family Law Specialist, Joanne Major comments in the Journal

It’s easy to overlook the fact that Major Family Law is, in business terms, a nascent legal practice.  Established a mere four years ago by principal, Joanne Major, when she was the sole fee earner, her drive and focus has taken the business on a steep ascendency. The practice now boasts a formidable team of five experienced solicitors, four legal assistants,  a non-legal independent family consultant, a paralegal and a business development manager. Hitting above its professional weight, Major Family Law is a name synonymous with top flight family legal advice.

This is reflected in the firm’s rankings in this year’s Legal 500, once again enjoying a top tier position and being described as a “pre-eminent practice”, as well as the fact that Joanne Major is once more the only family law solicitor in the North of England to be listed as a Leading Individual.

Despite being described as a “well-respected rainmaker”, Mrs Major remains modest and is determined that the success of her practice is incontrovertibly attributable to having a strong and dedicated team, and she is justifiably proud of the recognition they receive collectively and individually in the Legal 500 listings. Newest addition to team Major, Lucinda Connell, is acknowledged within the listings in her role at former practice Beecham Peacock, meaning every individual fee earner in the practice is named in the Legal 500 – no mean feat in itself.

The fact that Major Family Law is an expanding practice in a time when many are contracting or ceasing to exist is in itself worthy of accolade. Largely due to Joanne’s “keen eye for the market”, she never allows the practice to stand still or rest on its laurels. Not afraid to challenge traditional conceptions of the legal profession, her forward-thinking approach to marketing and relationship building have won her a nomination for Innovative Family Lawyer of the Year at this year’s Jordan’s Family Law Awards in October.

The annual awards are open to members of the legal profession from across the country, and one of only four to be shortlisted in her category, Joanne is the only solicitor from the North of England to be nominated for an award, and this reflects her standing within the legal community on a national as well as regional basis.

In a year when the legal profession has been shaken to its roots by the effective culling of legal aid, and the emphasis firmly placed on non-adversarial approaches to conflict resolution, team Major are proud to boast four fully-trained collaborative lawyers and five members of Resolution, the national organisation of family lawyers committed to non-confrontational  resolution of family issues.

Across the board, Major Family Law offers expert and sympathetic advice on all aspects of family law and assures you top flight service, whilst remaining reassuringly affordable to ensure access to quality legal advice remains accessible to all.
