Rebecca Savage, Solicitor with Major Family Law, the North East’s best divorce and family law specialists, states on 11th March 2016 the second reading of the No Fault Divorce Bill will take place. The Bill seeks to introduce an extra ground for divorce, whereby parties could jointly petition for divorce where their marriage has broken down irretrievably. For many this will provide much needed reform to the law by providing an option to parties who have separated amicably and do not wish to have to point fingers or wrongly admit fault in order to dissolve their marriage. At present the only option for such parties is to wait until they have been separated for 2 years. The Bill proposes the same amendment to the law relating to the dissolution of Civil Partnerships.
