Major Family Law has received its tenth top ranking in the Legal 500 since the firm was established in 2009.

Meanwhile, founder Joanne Major has been granted Hall of Fame status for the second consecutive year. She is the only family solicitor in the north of England, male or female, to have received this accolade.

The Legal 500 is a prestigious global directory of lawyers and law firms which has been published every year since 1987. Rankings are based on publicly available information and provide an impartial, merit-based assessment of each firm and the capabilities and successes of each legal professional listed.

Major, based in Ponteland near Newcastle, is declared a ‘Tier 1’ firm within its field, while Managing Director Joanne’s Hall of Fame accolade means she is:

“…widely regarded as being at the very top of the profession”.

Lawyers placed in the Hall of Fame must “have been consistently ranked as leading individuals by The Legal 500 for a number of years (at least eight of the last ten years in the UK).”

Associate Sam Carter has also been declared the firm’s ‘rising star’, meaning he appears “frequently in significant matters” and is “widely cited by peers and/or clients as having made major contributions to practices.”

The Major Family Law ‘next generation partner’ for 2022 is Anna Hunter, a title granted in recognition of “significant recognition from clients and peers in the market” and “lead roles on multiple matters”.

Amongst the very impressive menu of client testimonials cited by the Legal 500, we find legal director Anna Hunter described as: “a stand-out individual and worthy of the highest praise. Client handling, attention to detail and professional support is the most impressive I have ever seen/experienced.”

Another testimonial cited by Legal 500 praises the firm as a whole:

“Under the strong leadership of Joanne Major and the recruitment of well- regarded family lawyers, Major Family Law has carved out an excellent reputation in the North East and beyond for offering sound family law advice. A well-run law firm with a good team behind its very well-regarded figurehead.”

Joanne is proud of the team she has assembled at the firm’s well-appointed offices and beyond:

“The firm boasts a wealth of experience and younger talent with “the brilliant” Calvin Walker and the recent arrival last year of experienced young lawyer, Stephanie Layton and the recruitment of two new dynamic lawyers, Sahil Aggarwal and Stacy Williams this past 12 months.”

Joanne added:

“I wholeheartedly believe the future of the firm lies in the younger arm and I am dedicated to supporting, encouraging and nurturing them all.”

Major Family Law is now the largest boutique family law practice in the North East, with 14 lawyers working in the firm, assisted by 11 support staff. Turnover is at record levels, with profit levels keeping pace. New staff members will be joining over the autumn. Joanne Major has great plans for the firm in 2022, with an exciting and radical initiative set to be launched early in the new year.

She explains:

“What clients want from their lawyers continues to change – and moving with client needs is what will keep Major family Law ahead.”
